Default Ranger as Beach Buggy Questions

Hello there!

I am in the market for a beach buggy to use here on the East Coast (NJ, NY, CT, MA) and, up until yesterday, I was looking at stock Cherokees. That was until I found a listing for a 2001 Ford Ranger XLT 4dr SuperCab 4WD Flareside SB.

First, its a great looking vehicle. Second, it has the hitch, the cap, and the roof rack on the cap that I am looking for. Finally, its right in my price range.

As that I don't have experience with Rangers and neither do my friends (Jeep snobs), I was hoping this forum could give me some advice.

Who uses their Ranger on beach sand and how do you like it?

Is the 4x4 on this model sufficient for my purposes?

Any know engine or other issues with this model year?

Thanks and I hope to hear from you soon.

I know someone who took their (4×4) Ranger to the sand dunes all the time and it dod great, even after many large jumps. It was a manual though, and I wouldn't know how an auto does on sand (if that is what the one you are looking at is)

No reason it shouldn't do just fine. The engine size doesn't make any difference. On sand, you just don't want to spin the tires in place or you will dig holes and get stuck.

Thinking ahead a bit...wheel seals and u-joints will get eat up by the sand. Any suggestions there?

A Ranger is what Mitch Buchannon (David Hasselhoff) used to roam the beach checking out all the fine ladies in Baywatch!

As earlier said it a light truck, with wide tires it will float very well.
