Default Air conditioning On - Off ????

I have a 2010 Ranger XL which replaces my 1990 Ranger XLT. The 1990 had an on/off switch which allowed you to use your fan controls for fresh air in the cab at times when the air was not needed. The new beast doesn't have the switch and it seems that the air is on all of the time. No matter where I put the control, when the cold/hot is at cold, I get the air conditioning. The owners manual doesn't give me any clues. Help! Dave

SNOWBALL09 put a switch in his truck to disable it

Switch is on the left at the top looks like a golf tee. Pull it out to activate AC

The color code for that wire in 2007/2008 Rangers is green w/orange stripe.

It is a good idea to run the compressor once in a while even in cooler weather to keep the compressor seals lubricated. Ford runs the compressor in several modes to help prevent warranty failures in the A/C system.

From the factory, the AC runs in all settings except:
- Off
- Panel only
- Floor only

All other settings get AC. Its stupid.

What a great forum. I realize why Ford has it this way but when you live in a very cold climate and want the best mileage you can get it doen't make much sense. Now, mine is a 2010 and I think the air is running on all but...I am off for a drive to see about the floor only and panel only controls. Thanks, Dave................I'm back. Yes floor only and panel only don't run the air as advised by members here. Thank-you again. I still think I'll install a switch.
