Check it for codes.

On older OBD 1 types use this procedure:

If its newer and has OBD2 take it into a parts store and ask them to use their scan tool to check the codes.

Post whatever shows up and we can probably tell you what it is.

when it comes on does it flash rapidly or does it come on solid and stay on for a period of time? any time your check engine light illuminates it means that the computer has stored a fault code and you can go to most autoparts stores such as autozone and they can read those codes for you, usually for free. get those codes and post them here and we can help you figure out whats making the light come on.

it doesnt flash rapidly it will come on and stay on.. then like after a while or so of driving it will go off and then come on.. stays on for a min or 2 and goes off. alright. so just take it to advanced and ask them to check the codes?
