130 Amp Explorer Alternator Swap
Quick question for the group...
Can a 130 Amp Explorer alternator be a direct swap with the 95 Amp stock alternator for a 2002 Ranger, 4.0 engine?
Any advice is appreciated,
Tom

Shouldn't HAVE to change any wiring unless you are installing something like a big winch which might actually pull over 100 amps of current thru the wiring at once. I would do the Big 3 wiring upgrade with 1/0 OFC wire.

Re: 130 Amp Explorer Alternator Swap
Well I found out the answer.... and it's No.
I purchased a 135 amp alternator for a 2002 Explorer 4.0, and it does not work:
1) The bottom bolts do not line up (they are closer together on the Explorer)
2) There is a missing plug receptacle (the Ranger has 3 plugs/cables: one goes to the battery, one is the field windings, and one is a single wire plug which I do not know it's function).
Will return the 135 amp and get the factory/Ranger 95 amp model.

I bought a 130 amp alt for my ranger from oreillys. And it bolted up and plugged in correctly.

When I say I bought one I mean I told the guy I wanted the 130 amp alt for a 2008 ford ranger with the 4.0 and they stock them. Not saying I made an expo one work. Just to clarify.

Same here, also my understanding is if you have an automatic transmission, you need the 130amp it's what I put in my '99, and my friend's '07, because that was what was there originally.

to the best of my knowledge I had the 90 amp from the factory. When I did the swap I did notice a difference in how much my lights dimmed whenever my bass hit, sense I have a decently sized system it made a difference for me but who know my old one just may have been stoped up with mud and worn out lol
