Speedometer blew, Cranks but wont start
I have 2001 FF 3.0 Ford Ranger. I was driving and my truck started idling, the speedometer then blew. Kept on driving til I got to my house.Truck did not have much power when accelerating. My truck cranks but does not want too start anymore. I have replaced the fuel pump. relay, Coli pack, Crankshaft position sensor. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

My thoughts exactly. I'm thinking some kind of short. So I woulkd say start digging for shorts and check for blown fuses. No idea what else that would mean at the moment.

Yeah my speedometer stayed at Zero while I was driving. No codes have been showing up, do you guys think it can be the computer or an O2 Sensor?

It'd still run on an bad 02 sensor just bad gas mileage. Take a plug wire off and turn it over and see if it sparks.

Do you guys know any symptoms of a bad computer. I took mine out to check if it was damaged, it just smelt burnt. Im guessing it was that. Thanks

As a PC guy, I can tell you that any time you have a burnt smell with electronics its never a good sign.

Re: Speedometer blew, Cranks but wont start
Are there any other components that you can confirm are not working? The speedometer is on the same fuse as a handful of other instruments in the cluster, and as experience has taught me, all of it will blow up if something screwy happens with the dome light. I popped that fuse probably four times before I finally had the bright idea to unplug it before working on the dome light. But when it did blow (before I diagnosed the bad fuse. I was in a hurry), the speedometer didn't work, the fuel gage wasn't accurate, and the normal "binging" from the GEM was gone. I replaced the fuse before starting it again, so I can't confirm if it would have caused future starting issues.
Also, the internals of the PCM are coated in a film of…something. I'm actually not sure what it is, but it's perfectly resistant to dust, dirt, and any other crap that can find its way into the engine bay. I can't remember what that coating smells like, but it won't be like the PC internals you might be used to.
