Default What would you do

i am looking at buying a 2002 ford ranger with 5,000 miles on the new motor, tranny, 4x4, ball joints and much more. he wants 5500 for it. i would take it to a mechanic first and make sure everything is legit. hardly any rust anywhere. The only kicker is there is 315K on the odometer. What would you guys and gals do?

where was the work done at?..do you know the shop?
Did the seller say if it needs anything else?...cuz if he said nothing then I'd be suspious lol

I dunno, can you post the ad?...there's a few people that will give you an honest opinion...
Maybe spot something not straight up.

So guy has new transfer case, transmission, and a rebuilt engine with only 5,000 miles and wants to sell it? Something doesn't add up. If I put that kinda money into my truck I don't think I would change my mind in that amount of time.

I really don't believe no rust. I have a 2000 with some good rust underneath and my truck has never seen winters like Wisconsin.

^^ x2 on this one.

I'm the only guy that puts a bunch of money into something, doesn't use it & sells shortly after! lol

Good idea. Even if he replaced all that stuff with that many miles there is still a lot of other stuff that could need to be replaced like axles, exhaust, power steering, It says 4 wheel drive was replaced????. Hubs, front axle, transfer case??? Not really even sure what he meant by that.

Plus, you need to find out if "motor rebuilt" means that he did top end rebuild, or a full motor rebuild.

Putting a set of reman heads and valvetrain on a motor with 312k on the bottom end sounds like a ticking time bomb to me.

Why not just buy a good truck at a fair price? $5,500 should get you a good truck. Try being a little creative.

It's probably 2wd but the price is better. It has a phone # http://appleton.craigslist.org/cto/4882046279.html
