THEFT Light Stays Blinking
I recently bought my 99 Ford Ranger and noticed right away that the "THEFT" light stays blinking whenever the ignition is turned off. I've done some research and found out that the light's blinking has to deal with not having the Official Ford Key - so to speak. The Official Ford Key has some sort of sensor that communicates with something near the key's hole and I do not have this sensor on the keys that I have.
Now I was wondering if there is a way to get around this issue without having to go to a Ford Dealer and having them set up an Official Key for my truck.
If any of you have a solution, a reply would be greatly appreciated! I just don't want my battery to get drained overnight or in a parking lot somewhere.

Re: THEFT Light Stays Blinking
It's supposed to blink when the ignition is off.

Re: THEFT Light Stays Blinking
It tells in the owners manual how to set up a new key, and I need to do this, as I only have the one key.

Re: THEFT Light Stays Blinking
If you only have one key then you are going to have to get a second one programmed. It is weird but it requires two programmed keys to make a third key. You will have to talk to a locksmith with a programmer to make you a new key. He will cut you a new key and add the programming to the chip in it.
Ray the reason the anti-theft is flashing when the key is off is to let you know that it is working and armed. It is perfectly normal.

Re: THEFT Light Stays Blinking
FYI - For that 2nd key make sure they don't just make a "clone" of your 1st key.
Many "big box stores" (and even locksmiths) claim to make Ford PATS keys - but all they do is clone the programming from the 1st key.
This clone would start your truck just fine - but it cant be used as part of the pair needed to program a 3rd (or more) on your own in your driveway for just the price of a standard key blank & basic cut.
Two keys, each with a unique PATS ID number is required to program additional on your own.
