3.0 broken timing chain
On the road today had the timing chain break. Whats the best resource to find TDC on the valve train to set the timing? 1992 Ranger Custom

I thought the 3.0 had pushrods, but okkkk. You have to take the spark plug out of the passwnger side cylinder, closest to you. You might be able to turn the engine over by turning a pully on the serpentine belt. You really need a breaker bar and a socket, i know my 2.3 is a 22mm crank bolt. Im not too familiar with the engine, but with all cams not being attached to anything, and the piston at the EXACT top of the cylinder, there should be a marking on the can, this gets aligned to a timing mark fixed near where the cam spins. Again, not real familiar with your engine. With all lined up, re connect the chain, not 100% on how you operate a chain tensioner compared to a belt tensioner

It does have pushrods. Which are driven by the camshaft, which is driven by a timing chain, which is driven by the crankshaft.

As long as an engine has a camshaft, it has a timing belt, chain or the timing is gear driven.

Re: 3.0 broken timing chain
You should have timing marks on your harmonic balancer, find 0 tdc and viola, you're set.
----------
Forgot to mention, make sure it's on the intake/firing stroke.

Re: 3.0 broken timing chain
Gonna have to get the crank on tdc compression stroke then get cam where #1 valves are closed and on compression stroke and line up the crank to cam marks. like this

Nope! Most are chain driven, some are gear driven. For example the old 300 straight six.

Not weird at all, chain drive is quieter. SBC, probably the most popular V8 to build/rod in all of history, goes back to 1955 and was chain drive.
