Default Unlocking Problem

I have an 03 Ford Ranger Edge, and for what ever reason the original fob, and the generic fobs I have no longer unlock the truck. I have tried new batteries. I am now even having trouble opening the truck with the key, it seems to be very sticky. Can someone help me troubleshoot this? When I use the fob unlock or lock button, I do not hear any sounds, nor do any of the lights do any thing.

You can spray some graphite lube in the locks to make them work easier with the key.

As for the fob, if it isn't even making noise, there could be a blown fuse or something. The lock actuators in the doors do go out sometimes, but you'll still hear them trying to work most of the time.

I posted a reply in another thread, but it was an old thread, so I don't know if anybody will see my ?

Here is the issue I'm having w/my '03 XLT.

I took the key off the remote. I put the key in the lock and nothing happened. It was the equivalent to putting in the wrong, it went in but wouldn't turn. I've always had just the one key and remote, so I know it's not a case of having the wrong key.

Forgive my ignorance, but is it normal for the key to just start the vehicle and not unlock it?

I will try spraying WD40 in the lock this evening to see that does anything.

Thanks for anything you can provide.

Should be the same key for both.

The problem, especially with trucks with electric locks, is that you use the fob to unlock it all the time, so the actual tumbler mechanism doesn't get used, and gets corroded enough to freeze it up.

That's what mine was doing. I'll be honest and say that I used WD-40, even though most people recommend not doing that because it will just attract more dust and grime. Graphite lubricant is a dry lubricant, so it doesn't attract more crap to make the lock stick.

The WD-40 did work though. Just sprayed it right inside the lock, stuck the key in, jiggled it a few times, pulled it out, sprayed a little more...repeat until the key turns.

I did this a couple of years ago (my electric actuators are shot) and started using the key to unlock the door. The driver's side is still working fine, but the passenger side is seized up again, mainly because I rarely use the key to unlock the passenger side.
