Gas Filling Woes
Whenever I want to fill my truck up with gas pump shuts off, and when i try using a funnel into my filler neck and hold the gas pump with the rubber boot back over the funnel and fill that way, i can only get about 2/10 of a gallon before gas begins to back up and I have to let go of the gas pump handle to stop overflowing gas onto the side of my truck. And YES I have read the majority of the other threads regarding this issue and have tried their remedies. First I took off the entire fuel filler neck along with all the hoses that run from it to the top of the gas tank. I inspected all of the lines and the fuel filler itself for blockages and found nothing. Then I removed the charcoal canister in the rear of the truck and ran air through it to make sure it wasn't clogged. Air ran through the charcoal filter just fine because i put my hand over the rubber hose outlet and felt a steady stream of air coming out. I know the charcoal vent solenoid isn't broken and stuck closed because this would not allow the passage of air through the charcoal canister. After this I took of the bed of my truck to examine the top of the fuel tank where the fuel pump is to make sure everything was connected properly. The only part I was questionable of was the spring-loaded funnel thing that is located right where the large rubber hose that attaches to the bottom of the fuel filler neck connects to the top of the fuel tank. A picture is included below showing me pressing down on the plastic piece with a screw driver. I was just curious if maybe the spring required too much force for the flow of gasoline to press down on it to allow a less restricted flow so it was getting backed up on this? Only thing that sucks is this spring-loaded funnel can't be removed and the only way to replace it is to replace the entire gas tank.
Anyone have any other sources of this problem from their experiences?

Re: Gas Filling Woes
have you gotten gas from any other stations to rule out its not the gas pump itself?

Re: Gas Filling Woes
Yep. And it does not depend on how much gas is already in the tank.

The solenoid is activated with voltage. Just to be sure, take a 9 volt battery and test the solenoid. You should hear it click when Voltage is applied.

Re: Gas Filling Woes
I have the same issue on my 03 ranger. It will still take gas if I pump it very slowly. If I pump it fast or normally, the pump will click off and gas will squirt out of the filler neck. I took a thin steel rod and stuck it down the filler neck and when I get to the flap I can feel that it is very hard to push down or open up. I'm thinking maybe it corroded or rusted and sticking so it wont open when the gas tries to open it. Anyone have a solution for that? Thanks

I was reading down Just in Case
I had a similar problem too, and started going to another station. It seemed that spring on the nozzle was different, and changed how it fit into the filler neck.
*On Edit*
