Cam Syncro - mechanical or electrical swap
I have been reading these forums for a long time, never really posted because i didnt think i had much to bring to the table, but have always enjoyed reading the forums...
So, i have a 99 ranger, 4.0L, 2wh and i either blew a head gasket or cracked a head, running short on time, i had a 95 explorer that has been used as a parts vehicle for me and some friends, but has a great running 4.0l. So i thought the easiest thing to do would be swap motors till i have time to overhaul the original 4.0l and maybe pep it up a bit.
So after swapping motor mounts, fuel rail, wiring harness, etc, i was ready to hook up the the cam syncro plug, well, the 95 has a 3 wire and the 99 has a 2 wire. So i think no big deal, set both motors to TDC and swap components, well, i went to set the 99 in the 95 block, and i find that the shaft is longer. So, screwed with it a little bit and thought, go to auto parts store and see what they may have. Well, it seems that everything is either going to be a 3 prong 123mm shaft, or a 2 wire 132 shaft.
Whats the deal? I have searched google a bit looking for a wiring diagram to see if there is something i can do with the 3rd wire, or knock the roll pins out and swap shafts, which does not sound like a good idea. I really thought maybe one of the wires would be to ground, but i ohmed it out and that didnt seem to be the case either.
It seems like i cant be the only person on the planet to run into this, but ill be danged if i can find a solution, so here i am. Stumped. I didnt really have the time to over haul the motor right now, but now i am standing around trying to find a solution to an extra wire that is holding up a running pickup. UGH!. Any help would sure be great!
Thanks!
