Inspecting a used Ranger
Hey guys, I have been looking online for a while trying to find the perfect ranger to pick up once I sell my Subaru.
Finally found the perfect one, but just had a few questions I hope someone could answer.
Im looking at 1999 v6 4.0 Manual with 4x4 and with 140k miles. He also just put some nice big tires on there.
Heres the deal: They guy got the car and the previous owner didn't tell him about some issues and he had a lot of work done on the motor. All the work was done by a certified Ford mechanic and he has the receipts, so that's good. I can't remember everything that he named off but it was stuff like valves and re-plaining the heads and new timing chain, and it cost him a small fortune.
I am going to inspect the car, and even pay to take it to a mechanic to get a compression check and an overall check out of the car, which is kind of a hassle seeing as it is over 3.5 hours away.
So here's my question. What I should I look for when buying the car? What will the mechanic be looking at?
I am a little worried about the owner before him not taking good care of it, and there's a bunch of oil gunk stuck up inside the engine. Would this be something that might have been taken care of?
Thanks for any input in general
