Okay, it's driven me nuts long enough. I HAVE to rejoin the Ranger community. After trading my Ranger off and buying two Ford Exploders and one blowing up for the dreaded SOHC timing tensioner issue and a diff' going crazy in a Mountaineer, I bouth a Kia Sportage (passionately hate it) and I'm trading it for one of two Rangers with the 4.0OHV. One is lifted 7 inches with 35's with an extended cab and another which is nicer is just a two door. My question is, what transmissions are behind these engines, what sort of problems do they typically have and...for reliability sake, what's your take?

Oh how have I missed the craziness of the forum!

That's kind of what I was thinking. The guy kind of gave the ghost when I was talking to him and said that apparently it's going to need new hubs on the lifted one, and that it makes a ''squeaking'' sound. That was kind of a turn off. I would like a lifted one and work from that, but honestly I'm not real big on retarded big lifts anyways...so when he said it had problems, I'm walkin' my happy butt to the guy with the stocker since it's fine other than a weird rough idle on start up which would be either an EGR or something easily replaced.
