Thumbs down Small amount of white smoke but large amount of confusion!

I have a 1993 Ford Ranger V6 4.0L and just today I drove about 10 minutes, got out and smelt a burning odor, opened the hood to find a small amount of white smoke burning in the lower driver side of the engine!?! Im thinking its some kind of coolant leak from what I have researched so I checked the coolant levels and the spill of tank is empty and the radiator is down about an inch from the cap! I don't know where to go from here or if this is something I can fix myself any advice would be appreciated!

not familiar with v6 rangers, but i'd fill it up with coolant, wait till it's cool and fire it up again, if there's a leak in a hose or inlet/outlet or whatever it'll be apparent immediately, which is probably the issue if there's a bunch of white smoke coming from your engine bay, If the white smoke was blowing out your exhaust then you've got something to really worry about.

Absolutely, check and listen for a pinhole leak in a hose, I have a similar creature in the driveway. The only coolant hose I can visualize is the lower rad hose. Hot and under pressure I could easily see a pinhole pissing a stream of coolant anywhere at the engine to create and burn off as white smoke.

Check main hoses and just for good vision, if the lower hose is the culprit, swap out the upper too as it likely isnt far from due either.

Talking Re: Small amount of white smoke but large amount of confusion!

thanks guys that really help narrow it down but it turns out I had two issues that the smoked helped me find! there was a small amount of oil leaking from a loose cover on too the manifold. and then the coolant was leaking from a loose hose clamp deep under the spill over tank! Got both problems fixed Super EASY,,, so happy no big issues!
