Before i had decided to buy a ranger i bet a guy 1000$ that i can make a car faster than his stock police interceptor. I then fell in love with rangers but im having an issue with the lack of performance talk surrounding them. Its not like theyre a honda that have 1000 different little ways to make them faster. Anyway heres my issue specifically. I need to make a ranger run a faster quarter mile time than a crown vic. A crown vic runs like a 16.1 and a ranger a 16.5 stock (i think thats with the 4.0).
What i have to work with:
-i dont have a ranger yet, so any input about which to buy for the application would be great. 3.0/4.0/manual/auto ect
-a reasonable budget. I cant dump 2k on a supercharger, but a few hundred here and there is fine.
-im a half decent mechanic but easier is better.

So far things ive considered are the basics: tune up, sticky tires, cold air intake, no restriction exhaust, maybe like smaller tires or something to increase torque? Idk. Im drawing alot of blanks, so any help would be great. Thanks guys.

Buy a 5.0 expo motor and swap it in

Buy a 3.fast and put some 35's on it and you'll blow right by the crown vic!!!

I know ur gonna b mad at me but I have two suggestions that I'm sure I'll hear about but if u half decent n want a cool toy either put a sbc 350 in it and buy some extras and for bout 2-3k u would have 500+hp, of course I would say buy a running salvage Lexus sc400or ls400 w the 1uzfe motor w 6 bolt mains and throw at least a small turbo on it , something out if a Volvo b good, then if u really wanted to go nuts put a big turbo inline w the small one to eliminate the boost lag w larger turbos . U can run up to 1000 hp on one of these motors no prob... And its albeit the same size as a 351which is a 302 block

Your gonna need a v8. I own a crown Vic and a ranger. My ranger is a dog compared.

An LQ4 6.0 swap could prolly be done for around that and would net way more power, if you want a chevy motor in your ford.......

And a 351 is a 302 block? Wat. Are you high? Theyre close but there are differences.....

Nitrous, and lot of it.

Smaller tires will increase your acceleration as would regearing the diff numerically higher.

Pretty sure you chose the wrong vehicle though.

Yeah i test drove a ranger yesterday and they arent fast lol. The 5.0 swap is really probably the only option here. Ranger024x4's idea might actually be the best one. Plus then ill have more money to buy a nkcer ranger., and i wont have to molest the poor thing to death lol.
