Truck wont start, just clicks
Working on getting a 1994 STX back on the road, its been sitting for about three years now. Battery is ok, but when you turn the key the solenoid clicks and the engine doesn't turn. HOWEVER, (this is where it gets fun) if you turn the engine over by hand, THEN try the key, it will occasionally turn over for a few times... then go back to just clicking :/
Any help would be awesome, thanks guys!

Re: Truck wont start, just clicks
clean the battery connections.
how do you know the battery is "good"? if the truck had a "good" battery then sat for 3 years it may have a very weak charge... which is honestly what this sounds like to me. try jump starting the truck or hook a battery charger to it for a bit and see if it cranks better

Re: Truck wont start, just clicks
Sitting for 3yrs is along time. I assume by now you've:
Replaced all the fluids. (fresh gas always helps)
You took the time to remove and check your plugs (add a few squirts of marvel oil into each cyl to free things up a bit more).
Check ground connections. Have a good battery on hand.
Id double check your starter for rust with a BFH and then do a starter test. I'd suspect the starter as a guess.
Hope you get it running...Fire in the hole!

I bet the starter itself is fine.

I bet it is fine. Next time test for power at the 2 wires. It takes 3 minutes. It you have B+ at the 2 wires it is either the connection or the starter. This is one of the easiest auto DX procedures.

When you turn the engine over by hand absolutely nothing happens to the starter. You probably have a loose wire that is getting bumped.

UPDATE #2:
She's fixed! the smaller positive wire that ran to the solenoid was corroded at the contact. Wish i would've realized that BEFORE i had taken the starter off.... Lol! Thanks for the help guys!!
