Question fuel tank strap replace

hey guys,

I was fixing a brake line the other day and noticed one of my tank straps has rusted through and broke completely. I havent gone much farther than buying new straps yet, but by the look of them its going to take some finagling to get the old ones out and new ones in. all othe starps i have taken off have had bolts at both ends, these one have a bolt at one end and a sort of "T" shaped piece that hooks on to the frame. just wondering if anyone has replaced these already and has some words of wisdom. Thanks

ps. my fuel guage quit at the end of the summer, better to replace the sending unit or pump and unit while the tank is down...

Those straps are real easy. Start by taking the bed off and then disconnect fuel lines and electrical connections to tank. Remove the tank and do sending unit and or fuel pump. When you go to install the new strap you slide the t side in first and turn it 90 degrees and that locks that side in place, pull tight around fuel tank and bolt the other side. Repeat for other strap.

Thanks.
so I am assuming its much easier to pull the bed off than it is to fight with putting those straps in while it is on?
the only thing i would be worried about is that its a 1997, under body looks pretty rusty, it sat previously for 2 years, so im thinking the bolts holding the bed on are not going to want to come off or they will break off.

ive removed bed before just not with so much rust, its relatively simple as long as the tail light harnesses un plug.....

I'm not sure you can even access where they connect to the frame by laying under the truck.

the front strap should bolt onto the crossmember from the top that I know of so you are right.

----------

Soak the bolt threads with wd40 or pb blaster before and let it soak in. You should be alright

worked like a charm. It helped that a buddy of mine has a machine shop so we hoisted the bed right off of the truck and everything went smooth.
