Default input bearing on a 1989 2.9 liter v6

I have a 2.9 liter v6 1989 ranger with a pretty obviously worn input bearing. When the truck is in neutral with the clutch out there is a whirring sound. When i put the clutch in the sound goes away. This is a pretty ratty old truck and i dont think i want to put the time and money into dropping the transmission and fixing it. (Im not at that level of DIY). Does anyone know how long it would last if i just drove it till it croaked? Can i do anything to extend the life? I figure that it'll shatter and destroy the transmission. I noticed the sound about three weeks ago.
