Unhappy 88 Ranger: Ignition Problems

Ok, so my truck was having issues, I went to Lowes, came out and put the key in, it turned on(lights and stuff) but no start... so then i went to turn it off, but everything stayed on. got it to push start, got it home, then started to replace stuff that i thought would have been the problem... so I've replaced the Solenoid(didnt fix it), the key switch(didnt fix it) and the starter switch(turned off the lights and everything, so thats fixed)... but i still can't turn the key and make truck start up. what do i do now? ive read some stuff about an ignition actuator, what is that and where the heck can i find it. I also bought the "Chilton Ford Ranger/Bronco" Book for reference, but no help on the actuator thingy. Thanks!

I think i know the box you speak of, isnt that the starter switch? it has two screws that attaches to the steering colomn, then a bar that inserts in it and that bar goes up through somewhere i cannot see... would that little piece(that i can pull out easily) be the actuator?

and pics would be awesome! and helpful, if i had a camera i'd show you what i was talking about lol

You might also verify that the neutral safety switch is not the issue. If you have an auto, it's on the drivers side of the trans, round plug with 5 wires. The red/light blue wire is from the ignition switch and the white/pink is the other side of the circuit after the switch.

It turns out it was the actuator, as I was removing the starter switch a piece fell out, I had a feeling parts arent supposed to fall out of things, so I took it in bought the part tore apart my steeringwheel and tada! All better. Thanks for all the help I really appreciate it!
