Other then the obvious that it is a 03, what engine are you performing this on?

If screen name guarantees it's an 03 (people trade vehicles but not always screen names), then I've go another question for you. When standing at the front of the engine bay and looking at the two coolant temp senders, is it the one on the left or the one on the right? If it's the one on the right, then you probably won't like what's next.

The sender uses a push on wire where the coolant sensor is a wiring harness with plastic electrical connector.

^^^Up 2 ^^^ No so on my 04, it uses two of the exact same sensors on the t-stat housing and thus, the same profile of female plug on each. They both seat and seal via o-ring and are held in position by a horseshoe shaped clip; remove via needle nose pliers and don't drop it. OP, I don't know which one is which and I don't know why you need to replace one (gauge or PCM + DTC issue), but simple diagnostics are in order. Try disconnecting the left one and see if that's the one you need to replace. Depending on what happens, you may need to clear a DTC from the PCM whn done.

* I used the word sender in an earlier post, means the same thing for this matter.

Dunno, but for conversation I defined that earlier. I don't know which is which, you need to either spend the time to read into it in the Ford factory manual (should be there), hope someone knows, or spend 5 minutes doing the diagnostics I just described.
