Generally go 87 but have found it runs best on 100 racing fuel.

Since 87 octane is the minimum all US manufacturers require, I don't understand the use of 85......or why it is even being sold.

^^^^This, and absolutely this.

It's hard to avoid but per a Federal renewable energy act around 2005, pump gas must contain up to 10% alcohol. The problem is, per volume, alcohol contains 1/3 LESS energy than gasoline, and cost MORE to produce. Some people complain and claim that they can actually see a mileage diff between E0 and E10. Now you know why and remember, we are MOL forced to pay more for this..

However, because of the alcohol there is absolutely no good reason whatsoever to dump seadouch in your vehicle. That alcohol is a wonderful cleaner, included at no extra cost and with every tankfull. If there is doubt about alcohol being a solvent to varnish, take a bottle of liquor, mix a drink, let that drink run down the side and set the glass on a varnished wooden table. You will find a nice ring, and its from alcohol dissolving varnish. Might as well take a match to the $5 bill rather than buy seadouch, you'll get something of benefit by burning that currency (ie, heat for the house). The exception might be an old POS that's sat for years, then you it would make sense to go run some form of cleaner through it.

Finally, remember that alcohol absorbs water. Therefore, it wicks moisture out of the air. Like, from the air in the tank on your motorcycles, snowmobiles, quads, generator, power tools, and older cars. These items frequently have steel gas tanks that are bare steel on the inside. Guess what plenty of people who are fussy about maintaining their equipment are finding on the inside of their gas tanks, thanks to all this %#@&ing alcohol?

If you put 100 octane in a truck you would have one small bank account. That stuff is not cheap.

And it probably has lead in it which is extremely hard on the emissions equipment.
