Default 1998 Ford Ranger Front Brake?

Hello, I have a 1998 Ford Ranger that I have replaced the front driver side brake pads and rotor. When putting in the new brakes there is only a 1/4" gap between the 2 pads and I was trying to pull them again the pressure of the caliper, but that wasent working, so I decided to ty and let some of the pressure out by loosening the bleeder valve and that also did nothin, so plan C was to come on here and ask you guys to hopefully get a good answer for this problem!!

Thanks for you time and information!!

Actually if you have ABS you need to loosen the bleed screw and compress the piston. NOT doing so can damage the ABS distribtion block.... Better to be safe and if you push the piston back then tighten the bleeder good you don't have to bleed the brakes just check the brake fluid level when you are done..

Don't forget to bleed the brake when you're done!

you need to compress the caliper piston fully, another poster suggested using the old pad and a C-clamp.. a good idea. also, you stated you are only replacing the drivers side?? NOT a good idea, do BOTh sides if you are going to do anything..... Brakes are like a pair of shoes the need to be replaced in pairs!
