Default "Thin Blue Line" license plate

So I started noticing that alot of cops around here have a black license plate with a blue horizontal line on the front of their personal cars. After some googling I found that its basically a "hey I'm a cop or related to one" plate. This apparently also has the effect of making some police look the other way for minor infractions. My uncle is a cop and I'm sure he'd get me one if I asked. My windows have illegal tint on them so I was thinking this may be a good thing to keep me from getting stopped for it. However, I drive a beat up 92 ranger that prob looks at least somewhat suspicious so it could just draw more attention and make them think I figured out their secret club and such....

Anyone think this is a good idea? I'm not sure if it'll help or just draw extra attention to me....

The blue line also represents a respect for a fallen Officer. I dont think you should use this privilege as a way to get out of tickets, or to get special treatment. I see this type of thing all of time with other Vol. Fire Fighters. Trust me when i say this, you will end up giving yourself a bad image.

Yup, while it is a sound idea your image does come into play. We have different colored bear stickers in Washington, blue, brown or green. They better way to avoid cops, drive like a normal sane person. And go get a doctors note saying you get headaches so you need the tint. Or your local tinter lol

lol, a couple years ago in montreal, they found out that having a certain sticker on the back of your car meant you wouldn't be ticketed, even if you parked in an emergency area.

Once it hit the news, those stickers vanished.

The only thing I'm "doing wrong" is that when I bought my truck it had aftermarket tint. Tint that state law says is legal. However, the local police chief and his merry band of thugs insist that any tint that isn't factory installed is illegal in the state of Pennsylvania regardless of how much light it allows to be transmitted. (I in no way dislike police officers, but the local police where i live are regarded as poorly trained thugs even by the surrounding local police departments where many relatives and friends serve) Even though the state attorney generals website says differently http://www.attorneygeneral.gov/consumers.aspx?id=295 but try convincing a police chief that hes ignorant to the law and if you're successful I've got a million dollars for you.

I always drive in a manner that won't attract LEO attention as gas is much too expensive to drive any other way. Hell, I usually get tailgated for driving the speed limit. But my truck also came with a stupid cherrybomb glasspack that I'm replacing with a stock muffler as soon as I can afford to (because i hate that it sounds like rice) which is rather loud and likely attracts its fair share of LEO attention.

Basically I'm just aiming to reduce my chances of getting pulled over for things that are not related to the way I drive, as I drive like grandma to save gas. My tint is staying one way or the other as my physician is a nice lady that will write me a note saying there is a medical reason for it if I ask her to. But even when I have that physician cert. it wont stop cops from pulling me over for it, it'll just stop them from telling me to remove it or get a ticket. I'm just looking for a way to decrease my chances of getting stopped for stupid **** that only a bored cop or a cop with a stick up his ass would stop someone for. It is, after all, rather inconvenient to get stuck on the side of the road for 45 mins while the locals figure out how to operate their retractable pens so they can fill out a ticket....

Before it comes up I would love to move except that I am a poor college student who has found a 3 story house that was renovated 5 years ago with a landlord that allows my 2 dogs and fixes anything I call her about within 48 hours and allows me to pay my rent at any time during the month without penalty. She even let me be 2 months behind for over 6 months until I got my grants once. The yard is also fenced for my dogs. The rent is only 650/month which is really good around here for a 2 bedroom apt let alone a 3 story 4 bedroom house. I'm not giving this place up without a fight....

the thin blue line has two main meanings. Its basically says your a cop, and two its paying respect to all fallen officers. I dont think you should use it to get out of a ticket. It really dont matter if you have ill-eagle tint, if they want to pull you over, they will. Thats just probable cause to pull you over. 9/10 times, they will basically visually search and sniff your car, if they dont smell dope, or your not drunk, and you haven't violated any state and local laws... they wont write you. in many cases, window tint is a fix it ticket. they wont make any money off it... so why waste paper and ink.... just throwing that out there for everyone else.

I'm still gonna stop ya for the tint. So many people have them now, that they don't mean a whole lot of anything anymore. Unless you have the credentials to back it up (not just a badge you found somewhere, but a real ID issued by your dept) then I'm still gonna gig ya for it. Even then, it depends on how you come off to me, if your a complete tool and demand that I let you off because of the "brotherhood", then I may start looking for more to gig.

(If you want to avoid coming in contact with me, avoid upstate NY)

I would never even bring up the plate if stopped. If the officer asked me about the plate i would simply respond that my uncle, a LEO, gave me the plate and told me that displaying it would show respect for officers fallen in the line of duty. Saying "you have to let me off cause i have a piece of plastic on the bumper" is so incredibly stupid anyone claiming such should be thrown to the dogs....
