Default Towing a u-haul trailer, stop the swaying!!

I've towed one of these things around town before and I recall it being rather unpleasant. The thing seems to drift left and right a lot once you get up to 50+.

At the end of the month, I need to tow this from CT to Washington DC for a good 6-7 hours on the highway. Is there anything I can do to make it more stable?

x2 and the max speed on them is 55 mph
i pulled one for 6 hours and i had to rearrange somethings to get more weight on the tongue and then it was as bad as before but still swayed alittle bit

Not much in it. Just some bulky but light weight furniture like beds and tables. I suppose I can put some bags of cement in it...

when loading a trailer always put the heavy items at the front of the trailer.

I towed a similar trailer with the B4000 from AZ to WA without any sway issue. Gotta drive the right speeds and put about 70% of the total weight in front of the trailer tires

Equalizer bars that run from the trailer to the hitch will help keep the trailer from swaying side to side when driving

Believe it or not, the tire pressure will have alot of effect on this too. I pull trailers about the same size at least 3 times a week. If there is a difference of just 2 pounds from one side to the other, there is alot of sway that happens. One tire will cause it. Also, try to load evenly, as too much weight on the front will raise your steer tires, too much on back will make pivot point raise, and will cause sway. Even though it is hard to do, try to keep it even side to side too. These are the 2 things that have haunted me for the many miles that I have drug loaded trailers. Hope this helps.

Stay safe out there on your journey.

See if they have the option for renting sway bars. We used to use them on our travel trailer and it made a huge difference!

Congrats on taking the contract!

Now we are both playing for the same team (sorta). I'll be sure to swing in on the way to my duty station, and we can have another repeat of New Haven (minus a few key players)...

Thanks Matt! Big azz changes in life. My head is going a hundred different directions right now.

I'll see if they have sway bars but nothing on the website said anything about them and last time I rented one, they didn't make mention of them either.
