Default year codes?

OK I took my old starter into auto zone yesterday... they looked it up and brought me a box, when I opened it, it was a different type (2 bolt) than the one I had (3 bolt) They ended up giving me a 2002 starter, which fit and worked great.

My question is now, since 2001 / 2002 appears to be a transition year for Rangers what other things may be different? also... how do I tell what year the transmission is? I would assume 2002, but does that mean I may have a 2002 engine in a 2001 truck? My vin number indicates its a 2001

Thanks

Dave

I have determined that most mechanical / electrical challanges are directly connected to the nut that connects the steering wheel to the drivers seat.

Default Re: year codes?

I think the transmission will have a sticker that says what year and month it was made.

my driver side valve cover has one and it shows i think 2004 but the truck is a 05
