200,000+ mile Rangers? Is this a good deal?
Hi all,
I'm looking to buy my first truck and I've settled on getting a Ranger. I'm not picky about trim packages or configurations, as long as it's 4x4 and manual trans. I've found what I thought was a good deal: A '94 Ranger with all the options, in 4x4 with a manual transmission, for $2000. Only problem.... It has 220,000 miles on it
Should I pass it over and wait for another Ranger to come along in 4x4 with the manual trans (which, I've come to find, is a pretty hard-to-find combination)? Or do Rangers last pretty long past 200,000 miles? I always thought 200,000 was right around when most vehicles started to kick the bucket. But what do I know? What do you all think? I appreciate your input

Thats nothing on a Ranger, if it runs good and all.

pass...Its your first vehicle, you're going to be rough on it...Something with that many miles probably needs more TLC than you wanna give it. and for 2k? WTF does the seller think it is, a toyota?

Its only just getting broken in. Treat it right and it'll treat you right.
That said, I wouldn't pay 2k for it unless the body is in absolutely immaculate condition. We're talkin showroom here....

So the consensus is that it'll still run good, but $2,000 is too high? How much should I pay for it?
Camodown, why do you say pass?
How many miles are on your truck, Aaron? Just curious.

Sorry, I should have been more clear. I've been driving for 3 or 4 years but all this time I've been driving a car and not a truck. I want to ditch the car and get a truck because I like the cargo hauling and the off roading. I'm a fairly mechanically inclined person, and I do all my own maintenance on my Saturn that I currently drive. I don't mind tinkering if something goes wrong.

Well, I got my 01 for $1,500, but your not going to find a deal like that anywhere.

well then I say use any damages you find to talk them down...maybe $1300...I dont think I could justify paying more than $1500, and thats if it had everything I wanted (color, trans, engine, options)

Re: 200,000+ mile Rangers? Is this a good deal?
Mileage is relative, some people stick to highway, some people like to get dirty. From my personal experience, offroaders tend to sell their trucks when problems start appearing (i know i know, there are exceptions), make sure you take it in for a complete inspection before you make up your mind.
My neighbor had one of the ancient models, it just refused to die.

I say pass because I'm not buying a gas engine vehicle that has 200+ thousand miles. You will have more into in a year then you paid for it

Re: 200,000+ mile Rangers? Is this a good deal?
I bought my 03 Mazda B3000 DS for $600 two years ago. It had 160k on it 186k now and came with a new engine and a rebuilt transmission in it. I've been driving it ever since with only oil changes and new spark plugs.
