Get China to put more emissions controls on their stuff, that will cut down production of greenhouse gases ten fold probably.

The politicians make me mad cuz if it's not one thing it's another, soon enough we will see cows with tubes in their butts to collect methane so it doesn't harm the ozone blah blah
China is also spending $100 billion a month in Green Technology. They have said that they will commit to lowering emissions as soon as the US does. And by a per capita basis, US still has the highest emissions by far.
And besides, if China cuts production of their factories/etc. things will be more expensive here in the US. Then americans will be really pissed because they can't go to Walmart and get 40 shirts for $10.

Lol yeah tardmart bah

And per capita doesn't really come into play with emissions. We have what 350 million people, China has 1.2 BILLION!!! They still produce more emissions as a whole. And we all need to do our part, US, Russia, China, Mexico, India etc.

ya, everything needs to be done globally, one country can't do it by themselves.
But from a different standpoint- China's energy use is rising so rapidly because people in China are starting to get things like refrigerators and fans. It is very hard for a country to tell its people they can't have a refrigerator because it is bad for the environment when in the US we have 2 or 3 in a house, plus 2 or 3 cars, etc. Most of the people in China and India don't have refrigerators, with some not even having electricity.

China is also communist. They are building several new communities of 2 million plus people every year. I think they can afford to buy the energy star logo stuff like we can. Hell they make it lol As they develop more I think they can MAKE their people do the "green" things

Ya, they can start off with green technologies so that they don't have to redo them in 20 years, that would save them money. I think a lot of this is just to prove who is the bigger country. If the US commits to green energy, then China will and India will too.

Canada started to do the cash for clunkers aswell but the program was set up a little differant anything from the late 80's and early 90's they would not take it had to be 94 or later close to the 12 yr old mark in age. And we to did the 3000 for a clunker to go towards a new car/ truck as for my orginal post about buying a 3/4 ton or a 1 ton and recieve a free Aveo or Focus you had to pay full price for the truck brand new wich is like 64 000 to even 70 000 up here and then you got the car for free. I think GM was doing it but it was based upon the dealership as ford Ford doing it non of the ones by me were doing it. Dodge I don't think were doing it either but each province is differant I remeber GM for sure.

This is what I don't understand because I am not American for the cash for clunkers why are they destroying some great vehicles I surfed Youtube to look for the Ranger one I seen a guy destroy a BMW that looked in great shape and a 2001 Blazer that was also in great shape. Wtf are these guys smoking when destroying these vehicles. You could resell these vehicles to people who cannot afford the news ones off the car lots.

X2 and that's what half of us are pissed off about, yes there are some rigs that just need to die, ie for me all Hondas lol and and some vehicles that are just beat the hell up, but there were plenty of great cars that just didn't need to be taken off the road.

**not sure if this was posted

But like, we could have givin the cars to the state, and distributed them to the needy, do you know how much a car would help with finding a job, etc? It would even be a safer place to live than some of the places around here.

We think the program was poorly executed in the fact that is what happened in most cases, and also it destroyed some perfectly good vehicles that could have been sent to a used car lot and sold to someone who could use it. These used vehicles have already made their largest carbon footprint or whatever you want to call it through the manufacturing process and their first years of life. And the other fact that I brought up earlier in this thread was that most off highway equipment doesn't have emissions equipment. So the emissions to crush these "clunkers" was probably greater than or equal to what the vehicles put out if they were on the road.

Plus on top of that yes it boosted the automotive industry in the country but not for very long, I think the stat said car sales were up 75% when the program was in place, don't quote me on that I am stating a number that is not a factual number I am simply stating that number to say for a fact vehicle sales were up during the program, but then sales fell right after that. So it really didn't help the automotive sales either. It maybe sold a few thousand cars more then if the the program hadn't been in place, but overall no one gained by it. Also my taxpayer money went to fund this program. I don't agree with this program. I would have been more on par with a program that fixed up older cars, put new emissions equipment and fixed the vehicles to as new running order, and if they were to far gone, THEN give them a cash incentive to go buy a new vehicle.
The trade in part was handled completely by the dealership, mostly there has been no follow up by the news but I heard one broadcast on the news that those who didn't follow the guidelines would have to eat the $4500 and a lot of dealerships were cheating. There wasn't a truck on the market that met the federal guidelines for mpg because they still suck on mileage.I had to sign a paper saying I would pay it if the Gov. defaulted for any reason, I'd love to know if anyone had to pay it back.

The only requirement to my understanding on buying a new fullsize truck was that they needed to get 1 mpg better then the one they turned in. I know dealers cheated, and it makes me mad. Whatever they can do to make a quick buck. But kudos to you for turning in a truck that actually sounded like it was a dead horse and picking a vehicle that did meet guideline and probably exceeded them

I agree with all of that reply especially because one of my other cars that gets the garage is a 1977 4 door Mercury Cougar with just over 100k on it.
It was too old for the clunker deal but given the choice I would have kept the 77 over the 94.
