Oh but we are, we have a speeding law called GEV which allows cops to be judge/jury/executioner, which was declared illegal by the federal gov. The emission laws our current gov is trying to put in place would see a ban for few trucks from being sold here, on top of the one i mentionned before.

By the way, our cops here have a standard test to check your muffler, they enter a metal wire to check the interior chambers, needless to say subaru owners had problems in court with stock parts...hahaha

I have actually heard of this Smakes, there are some guys here that are down from Alberta and Ontario that were talking about this stuff with me. They inflate some of the prices on cars up there too, so Canadians come down to Havre to buy a vehicle then take it up to Canada, because it's cheaper to get it legalized then buy a new one there I guess.

Is it still super cold up there? L.O.L. I hate to inform you but alot of cops and law enforcement agencies carry on board smog equipment including town cops. Here in VA, we have to have an annual inspection sticker. If it has alot of body damage then it won't pass. On new vehicles they test for emissions ANUALLY. I got lucky on this because my ranger was manufactured before August 21, 2004. Any car or truck after that date registered for on highway use has to have emissions testing done once a year. Anything that CA comes up with no matter how ass backwards it may be, My state upholds it and tries to enhance the legal problem more than it should.

My gov wants to ban brand new models from being sold here, even cali doesn't go that far on green terrorism actions.

Talk about being more catholic than the pope...

Shame on them. I bet if you tried to import those models they probably wouldn't let you register them. What models are banned up there anyway?

The gov will always make exceptions for a gov owned company, lol. I can't recall the model, but they were 2010s.

That sucks. I would tell you to go and put your foot in their asses but you might give them brain damage though, L.O.L. That sounds like those idiots that try to run this state. We can't have Porsche cars OF ANY KIND IN THIS STATE. but they can pass through or be registered in another state. Here's the reason they gave: THE COPS CAN'T CATCH THEM and have enough of a hard time with a Mustang much less a PORSCHE. yet several govt. officials own 3 or 4 of them.

I think you guys missed the point of the whole thing. It was clean air/energy independence by getting rid of low mpg polluting vehicles. You had to trade to a higher mpg car. I forget now but it was like $3000 for a ten mpg bump and $4500 for 15 or more. I got rid of my 84 Dodge Ram and it was a blessing. That thing looked OK but got 10 mpg and needed AC, transmission, electrical, and on and on. I would never have gotten $1000 for it with out the clunker program and couldn't afford to fix everything it needed. And as far as repos go maybe some JOBS would help out but between the ass hat bankers and the Corporations sending work overseas there aren't any.

The program has mixed reviews I find helps the economy by selling cars and get cars for people who cannot afford to fix their clunkers. But people who cannot afford to make the monthly payments on these new cars it will bite them in the ass in the end. Plus some of these clunkers cannot pass the California emmisons. Whats funny is my 2009 Ranger says specifically not for sale within the state of California. Up here Canada had a program if you bought a 2500 or 3500 truck they would give you something about the size of a Chevy Aveo for a car for free.

It sounds like you at least used it for a good purpose. But the studies that I have heard showed that most people traded in a mid 90's vehicle that were in decent enough shape for a vehicle that got about 1 mpg better then the one they took in. We think the program was poorly executed in the fact that is what happened in most cases, and also it destroyed some perfectly good vehicles that could have been sent to a used car lot and sold to someone who could use it. These used vehicles have already made their largest carbon footprint or whatever you want to call it through the manufacturing process and their first years of life. And the other fact that I brought up earlier in this thread was that most off highway equipment doesn't have emissions equipment. So the emissions to crush these "clunkers" was probably greater than or equal to what the vehicles put out if they were on the road.

Plus on top of that yes it boosted the automotive industry in the country but not for very long, I think the stat said car sales were up 75% when the program was in place, don't quote me on that I am stating a number that is not a factual number I am simply stating that number to say for a fact vehicle sales were up during the program, but then sales fell right after that. So it really didn't help the automotive sales either. It maybe sold a few thousand cars more then if the the program hadn't been in place, but overall no one gained by it. Also my taxpayer money went to fund this program. I don't agree with this program. I would have been more on par with a program that fixed up older cars, put new emissions equipment and fixed the vehicles to as new running order, and if they were to far gone, THEN give them a cash incentive to go buy a new vehicle.

I would love to see that ad, the only program i saw sucked balls and wasn't publicized.

Oh and it helped the foreign economies more than anything else.
