This is why I voted for Hillary in the primary. Yes I voted for Obama in the GE but I would have voted for a dog as long as it wasn't a republican. Obama is and always has been a corporate whore but he has enough charisma to cover it up (I know, Hillary wasnt/isnt much better but its the lesser of two evils.... . Remember how he promised universal health care and it turned into everyone has to buy private insurance and make my cronies some more money or else we're going to fine you? Cash for clunkers works the same way. He comes off as helping the environment but what it really came down to was I'm going to make a huge incentive for people to buy cars they cant afford and require that their old vehicle be destroyed. That way when the new vehicle is inevitably repoed my buddies get to sell it twice and line their pockets some more!

but i'm with others, i scored a ton of good, cheap parts from it.
Was told by a tow truck driver that does repos on the side that his business is already up due to people not being able to afford the new payments.

yeah, exactly. a lot of people got put in that position, and now don't have any form of transportation cause they traded in their old (cheap/paid off) car.

They just opened an "auto recovery" place right outside of town, its only been there about a month and it's already got probally 75 cars in it and most of them look fairly new.

those were the most depressing videos ive ever seen. i sort of felt like i was watching people kick small animals to death. i would have gladly driving both those cars and know people who are desperately looking for cars that they can afford that could have driven those.

Default The reason it...

The main reason it flopped was due to people's stupidity and failure to look at the big picture. They didn't do the math. A new car or truck will cost you more in the long run versus something that's paid off and has no problems. What made it worse was the fact that alot of good usable parts were wasted along with the materials used to make the parts to begin with that could've been reused. It looked good on paper but did it really work? Nope it didn't. Jay Leno said it best when he was featured on an episode of Hotrod TV. When you retsore something you're doing a form of recycling and helping the enviroment. Sure the emission won't be great or handle like today's cars but the gasoline doesn't polute the eviroment like is use to. That came from Jay Leno a certified car guy.

Default I did the...

When this program fisrt came out, I sat down with a calulator, pencil an invoice photo, and a pad. I did every known thing I can do to try and save money with this program and each time I came out of the losing end of the deal. The lowest price I got to was around $380.00 bucks a month. That's nearly $90.00 bucks a month more than I'm paying now at $310.54 a month. Plus with higher interest rates and more a higher insurance premium, I calculated nearly $150.00 bucks more a month than what I'm paying now. People living beyond their means is whom ruined this program and it boosted repo agencies businesses and also the last group that needed help from this got it: THE IMPORT INDUSTRY. Toyota is really paying for their cheap parts now aint they? People are really suckers for good deals and fail to realize that they're being manipulated into these deals with their eyes wide opened but with a closed mine. here's what really told the story about the program. THE DEALERS HATED IT. I talked to one dealer and he said it'd take so long to fill out the paperwork and they had to wait so long for their money that they stopped doing it. That came from the Head dealer himself. That told me all I needed to know right there. Plus Stacey David made a really good point too. let's say you needed a part for what is consider a clunker by the program. And you couldn't purchase it because it's no longer manufactured and you don't have the needed time, money or have the fab skills needed to complete what you needed. What do you do? so you go to a junk yard and find that you can't get the part because it's considered a non salvagable part because of this program. IMO that's what hurt our enconomy in the LONG RUN. And for those that repo vehicles, what if the last owner didn't take care of that vehicle? What then? Now you have ragged out junk that can't be repaired or given away that's costing you money for storage as well as financing companies, insurance companies, etc. whom get charged for the storage fees and rates which go up every year.
