so im looking at this 03 ranger for $9,888.. the site to decode the vin says it can be different trim levels but since there are no identifying decals how do i tell from edge/xl/xlt? and what is better? the motor is a 2wd 4dr with 3.0 ohv.. it is getting new heads put on as we speak.. i guess the old heads had sunk exhaust valves.. it looks clean.. im going to look at it again when the work is done and test drive it and maybe buy if i like it but wanted to see what you guys have to say

This. The price you listed is what I paid for my 2002 single cab, 2wd, 3.0 edge with 36k miles back in 2006. Way too much. Depending on the mileage, I would not pay much over $6k.

I agree with BlueEdge....

You should google up what that year is selling for across all boards.
Also, check the Kelly Bluebook for real value...

I usually go look on Craig's List and other similar seller sites and see what the average is or lowest common denominator....

There's plenty of Ford Rangers out there for a better deal than that.
You may just have buyer's addiction as it was the first one you looked at lately (?) or, you know the seller personally and you are being molded by that relationship...

I would certainly keep looking around.... You could post something on this Ranger Site and the others... asking for anyone who is selling their's and get more info... CarJunky.com also has sellers on it...
At that price, it sounds like the guy is trying to get all of his repair money back, or the actual cost he paid back when he first bought it... who knows.....

I paid $17K for mine right off the Lot with only 8 miles on the Odometer. That was my choice and no one else has ever driven it.

Price is definitely too high unless it has under 40k miles on it. I payed 3900 for my 03, its a 2.3 reg cab and my price was even too high. I would keep searching or try to talk some sense into the seller.

Also has the 3.0 and it looks like it's a 2 door Ranger. Not that either of those are necessarily "bad" but when comparing Rangers the 3.0 is the less expensive engine, and the 2 door Ranger is also less expensive.

So if your shopping around keep that in mind. Don't get caught up comparing a 2 door 3.0 to a 4 door 4.0.
