im about to cry :( i have to sell my truck.

i recently had a post asking if i should get my pads/rotors, lower ball joints, and possibly an 02 sensor fixed. and so i decided to get the stuff fixed, but before they did that they checked out what else i would need and i will need valve cover gaskets, my coolant is leaking externally from both cylinders, and the syncronizers are worn in the trans. and some other small things here and there to get it all fixed. they said it is not worth fixing because the total of fixing all of this will cost almost as much as my trucks worth. im so pissed! im starting to look for another ranger. so hopefully i can stay here cause i love this forum.

Motor/Trans swap. Go to a junkyard and find it a new(ish) 4.0 and trans and swap it out. Learn a good bit about your truck and save some money. Not to mention you get to keep the truck.

My opinion, fix it. We all grow attached to your truck, your starting to get it where you want it, so don't sell just because it needs work. Maybe learn to do some of that yourself. They are awesome trucks, but any truck will cost you money.

i dunno if i can trust goin to a junkyard and doin all that, it just doesnt seem worth doing all this cause these 4.0s are known to get some work done every once in a while so idk well see how it goes cause if i sell it i could get a really nice ranger i think.

It's your choice, either way I hope it's one that works for you.

For me I'm a gearhead, I fix things that are broken. And the satisfaction when it's done, absolutely amazing.

Don't listen to whether or not THEY think it's worth fixing, it's up to you. If you spend the time/money getting another truck who says that won't have problems too? No vehicle is problem free, not even new ones, so I say evaluate the repairs vs. shopping for a new truck and just fix the one you have...

ive had it for about 8 months or so idk. yeah i dont get much sleep either lol i work from 8-8 pretty much, and have been saving up alot. ive thought about it tho and i honestly dont think it is worth fixing all this shit. well see. lol shit happens though..

If it were me, I'd probably go find a newer 4.0 Ranger ex cab. That's what I did and don't regret it one bit. My ol 94' was paid for, ran good (needed a few minor thing bust ran like a champ and looked new) and is still going. But I needed newer and bigger and got just that. Now I have NO worries if my truck is gonna crank when I go to start it in the morning. Plus there is nothing like getting a newish vehicle. I made a big jump! I went from a 94' to an 06'--12 years is a lot of difference in my two rangers! I love how smooth my new Ranger runs and how dependable it it!

i say fix it. its your baby. dont just throw her away because she will cost you. yes it wont be cheap but in the long run you will respect your truck even more. for the time being get a good running junker and use it for a DD wile your slowly fixing yours.

Well the advantage to a old truck over a new truck is the old truck is paid for. Why sell it keep it in the garage or on the driveway and keep it as a project truck and still get a new one. Once a person who is mechanically inclined goes over that truck of yours like CSI they will see the problems with it. If the body is in great shape keep it

How many miles are on the truck? You could have only the major work done on the truck and do the minor stuff yourself like the brakes and ball joints. They are not very hard to do if you have any sort of mechanical inclination whatsoever and it will save a good chunk of change verses having a shop do it. I would also bring it to another shop to get a second opinion on it. Its sad, but a lot of shops will try to screw anyone and everyone over. It kind of sounds like that shop was trying to fix very minor details that don't really effect the overall performance of the truck.
