if your year ranger has all wheel abs there should be a wire on top of the pumpkin that reads what going on inside

Those sway bar links have sure seen better days. Energy suspension end links, have polyurethane bushings for like $27

I have one spare in case this did happen so it looks like I have to go the the parts store. I called and they are $12-$16. Do you think it's safe to go down to the parts store with them off?

Yes.
Guys have been known to just remove the sway bar altogether.
