The ones that they used to make had a blue coating over the whole bulb, while the newer ones have a clear strip in the middle of the glass. All the blue coated bulbs are junk- the blue coating is a filter that prevents warmer colors from exiting the bulb. This makes the light output "whiter" (a higher kelvin temperature), but it also lowers final lumen output and lowers the amount of useful light. Also, because they must run the filament much hotter to approach higher lumen output, the bulbs only last 200-250 hours. The philips extreme vision bulbs are clear (except a small blue tinge right at the tip behind the shield), and last longer than the old style silverstar bulbs (rated at 320 hours). They also have higher lumen output and better beam focus. While the gap has narrowed slightly since sylvania started using the osram bulbs, the xtreme visions are still better. GE Nighthawks are as good too, cheaper, but dont last as long. Im no expert with all this though (a noob actually). If you want a dizzying amount of info on lighting, head over to the automotive section of the candlepower forums.
oh great I got a set of silver star bulbs in my fog lights and head lights that are about a year old too fuck time to go the the ultras now that I hear this

The ultras are/were even worse. I'd go with a xtravision, Philips, GE or something like that

Don't shit your pants, they're just bulbs.

I had some in mine that were in there since I bought the truck almost 4 years ago. Bulbs were still good but my girlfriend dropped the housing and broke it.

Minimum 4 years they last..... Just saying.

If I have a headlight out, I walk into Walmart. Pick up a bulb off the shelf that says 9007.....60 seconds in the Walmart parking lot to install and I leave.

I hate that I haven't done half of what I wanted to do to it. And that it needs maintenance again lol

The cab is leaking. Not sure if its bad seal on the new windshield (Safelite's problem) or if it's one of the dozens of holes I've cut/drilled into my roof lol

I hate the fact that i have changed the passanger side cv joint and seal 3 time and it's still leaking..... I took it apart again today to see if the axle shaft was out of round, it seems ok. After putting it back together i noticed a lot of play between the cv jonit and the axle.. How do I fix it????

I hate that I didn't get 4wd. and while my ranger is getting old, 15 now, its only got 136,300 miles on it. and theirs no such thing as a low cost repair.... every time something breaks its at least $400 or more to fix it.

check engine light is on once again, another bad sensor says the code perhaps?.... tp sensor this time I think....$40 part, and they will charge hundreds to replace it for me. (cant do it myself I'm not mechanic).

im pretty much done with this truck.... the repairs are killing me..... $$$$$$$$$$ money pit. I can see why ford stopped making rangers.... I love my ranger and hate it too.... wish I could get rid of it to be honest. lol.

Time to learn how to do the repairs yourself or any used vehicle is going to kill you with repairs.
