One time I had to go pick up some people on 6th that couldn't get a taxi during the state relays.
It took 2.5 hrs to go from riverside to downtown and back, which was maybe 5 miles. This being at 2AM. Quite annoying.

Real good question. You sound like you've been here before.

LA traffic isn't that bad actually. Morning traffic is usually 45 minutes to go 12-15 miles

I just remember being on the freeway on the Bandit (GSF1200S) where it was bumper to bumper. I remember coming onto an overpass and seeing about 5 streets below all bumper to bumper. It was hot, there was exhaust smell everywhere, horns honking, and everyone with an angry/frustrated/miserable look on their face. I was headed through from Ventura to San Diego, and caught it at the wrong time.
Only thing that saved me from the nightmare is that lane-splitting is legal in California I was able to creep along while everyone else was at a standstill. And wouldnt you know, one of the pricks OPENED HIS DOOR which I damn near hit- he then proceeds to look out his opened door screaming obscenities at me
I vowed to avoid LA at all costs even if it meant a 2 hour detour. That place is a zoo...

Ohhhhhh yeah, hahaa you probably took the 405 through Santa Monica. When they did construction on an overpass they called it "CARmageddon"
That's weird. People here always scoot over when a bike is coming up, I've never seen someone actually try and harm a motorcyclist. Drivers here are always really courteous. I would have bashed his headlight and kicked his side mirror off.

Freeways and streets in LA are slammed with traffic between 6am-11am and 2pm-7pm. It's ridiculous that it takes an hour to drive 15 miles.
And drivers here do not respect motorcycles at all. I'm one the few who actually move over when a motorcycle is coming. I will never be on motorcycle in LA. Every day, I hear vehicle vs. motorcycle collisions over the radio and after having responded to a few and seeing the carnage, I'll stick to being in a vehicle.

It's carmageddon every day on the 405. That carpool lane didn't do shit to help traffic, it only made it worse. Funny thing is, everybody packs onto the 405 and don't even realize that Sepulveda Blvd is clear and has very little traffic most of the time.

Lane splitting was never legal in Kalifornia, it was just never illegal. CHP used to have some suggestions about how to do it. Those are removed now.

I would not feel safe on 2 wheels there. Even here, just the other day, I got a green light, and I hesitated. Idiot in an Escalade blew through while he was testing. Would have killed me.

When I was stationed in San Diego, we had a CHP motorcycle cop show up at our base for a motorcycle safety brief. Our command asked the CHP to send him for motorcycle safety reasons, and we all met him at a parking lot on our bikes
He talked to us about various ways in which motorcyclists got killed in accidents. He said the 3 main ways in order were:
1) Car makes left turn in front of motorcyclist that was not seen
2) Car rear ends motorcyclist
3) Car pulls out from driveway/lot in front of motorcycle not seen
He suggested that if we didnt already, we SHOULD be lane-splitting whenever possible at intersections to avoid being rear-end sandwiched between bumpers. He suggested caution otherwise but nonetheless encouraged it.
Itd be crazy if it became illegal in California..

CHP removed their 'guidance' from their website. https://www.dmv.ca.gov/portal/dmv/de...lane_splitting It is neither prohibited or allowed.

I saw the second way one day while sitting in traffic on the 405 north. Traffic on the 405 south had come to a sudden stop, the motorcyclist came to a stop, but the car behind him, the driver was either distracted or couldn't stop in time and rear ended him. He ended up flying off of his bike and went airborne and over the car in front of him and landed on the back of the car that was in front the car he went over.
Fucked up part about it all, I call 911 and get put on hold. I hung up and called CHP's non-emergency number and got through right away. The dispatcher asked me if I had called 911 and hung up, I said yes and she apologized for that. It wasn't her fault. It's the fucked up system that the state has for 911 and they still haven't fixed it.

The Hurt Report does show reduced rear end collisions where filtering is allowed. But it's not a huge drop, and not a lot of other research has been done on it.
