Ethanol in gas rant
I am so annoyed with the ethanol in gasoline. Why do they mix it in with out fuel, it only causes problems. I've had 2 lawnmowers killed by the ethanol mix in gas and it isn't good for my truck either. And apparently Harris County (where I live) and any county bordering Harris isn't allowed to sell ethanol free gas. I am going to start using some type of ethanol treatment but I know it isn't as good as ethanol free gas.
I am not against ethanol, I think it is a wonderful fuel if used alone. Ethanol can be made out of anything sugar based, thus it is totally renewable, and pure ethanol would be cheaper than gas. You would have to modify your car to run pure ethanol but it is a great alternative. I would encourage anyone to read more about it. If I had the resources, time, and an extra car to experiment on first, I would start using pure ethanol gas.
I know my augment is a bit 2 sided, but to clear it up: Pure ethanol is a great fuel if you modified your car to use it. But if you don't want to use pure ethanol or mod your car, you should be able to get normal ethanol free gas. I don't think any of this 10% or 15% ethanol gasoline should exist.

Re: Ethanol in gas rant
Agreed.
I think the 10% ethanol mix fucked with my parent's Cadillac STS, my sister's BMW X3, and my Yamaha R6s bike. The two cars mentioned above have been throwing CEL codes regarding running lean each time they gas up at my normal station. The bike doesn't throw any codes, but idles like CRAP.

Re: Ethanol in gas rant
Ethanol sucks. I would be fine with it if we had a CHOICE between e10/e15 and pure gas. I would pay a dollar more a gallon for ethanol free gas any day of the week.
Ignorance really sucks.

Re: Ethanol in gas rant
I don't think gas with 10% ethanol can kill 3 lawn mowers. Cleaning out carb jets and replacing short fuel hoses is routine, basic maintenance.

my ranger cries when i mention ethanol fuel
my cobalt doesn't give a shit, it's like the girl that believes everything is just fine
and my mowers & stuff say 'fuck you' in their own quirky little ways lol

yeah if I you stay after the little engines it seems to be fine, but letting them sit over the winter with ethonal gas in the tank & lines is a no no i've learned haha! of course that's a no no with any small engine & any type of fuel... but yeah lol

Same here Nate, the other issue with ethanol is the newer four stroke outboard marine engines have a lot of trouble running on it, we have a 60 Yamaha and the ethanol eat through the fuel lines and broke down the fuel filter in the first two seasons and the engine only have 50 hours on it, now it doesn't seem to run right

I have heard that many boat marinas sell ethanol free gas. And I was talking to a friend and he told me that another friend of ours uses premium gas in his lawnmowers and that seems to work better.

Re: Ethanol in gas rant
i concur. i hate ethanol mixed in with gasoline. and most stations run more than 10% to cheat some on the costs. a news station here actually did an investiagation on it. I can find one place without ethanol now and its expensive! I do it whenever I'm rolling in money (which isnt often)

Ya it's also 30 cents more a liter here, plus where we boat, there is no marina that pumps fuel anymore, only thing you can do is to put ethanol in the tank, old two strokes are fine but the new fours suck!

Re: Ethanol in gas rant
So far (knock on wood) i haven't had any trouble with ethanol mixed gas. i did see an interesting thing on the history channel a few years ago. this guy had an older model dodge truck with a V 8. somehow he made a furnace system out of parts lying around his shop. the heated air made the pistons work and the truck ran. though how, i have no clue. lol

Re: Ethanol in gas rant
Heres how to find pure gas.
http://pure-gas.org/
As far as it being a double sided issue, that is very accurate. The ethanol eats everything that is not ethanol approved. Lines, carb seals, race bike fuel tanks, you name it! All the local small engine guys only recommend 93 oct. for small engines and stabilizer,(non-ethanol), if it sits for more then 2 weeks!
As far as the guy with the power stroke? Put a water separator on your fuel line and tell me what you think of your "quality diesel"....make sure you hook up the sensor and warning light too.
Marine and aviation fuel may be rated at 102+ octane, but it can vary +/- 10 octane as there is no real regulation on it. It also contains ethanol. Ask around the airports and all the guys flying will tell you it sucks for them as well. Runs lean and eats seals, though they run steel lines it's still not a good thing.
You guys should also look at the ingredients of your stabilizers/octane boosts/anything additive wise as most are just a form of ethanol and will make your problems worse!......even check your 2 cycle formulas!
Best,Jay
