Default Ranger: RIP

Well, my ranger just threw a rod through the oil pan going down the highway. Right after I just did new heads, new gaskets and what not... This was my first day driving it.

Hah, at this point it might be worthwhile to consider a v8 swap, or if I can find a v6 in the junkyard.

Best thing to do is find a donor explorer. The whole car, put the two cars side to side and start swapping everything over.

Well that sucks. No hints that bad news was coming? Hints like a bearing knock that was first noticed on a cool/cold morning and got worse as time went by? Or prolific lifter noise, suggesting low oil pressure?

i'm with the other guys, do a 302 swap. find a running driving v8 exploder for a donor vehicle, do a trans service and go over the engine while it's out (replace gaskets if needed, plugs wires & oil change) and you should be fine. shouldin't cost more than $4k, most of that figure being the purchase of the donor vehicle.

6-8 grand? A shop here just quoted me 3K for it. That's without rebuilding the motor or trans though
