Re: Drum brakes
You guys are over thinking drum brakes. The great thing is that you can get parts anywhere. Put the back up on stands and take off both rear wheels and drums Replace everything that attachess to th backing plate. Work on only 1 side at a time so you have a reference.

Re: Drum brakes
Yah, but since they started using disc brakes, they only suck half as much

Re: Drum brakes
Drum brakes get a lot easier when you have the right tools.
http://www.mytoolstore.com/kd/kdbrak03.html
The spring tool makes it SO much easier than trying to use needle nose pliers.

Be glad you only have 2.
My old Ford had drums on all 4 corners.
And they really didn't like creek crossings. It would take me a while to get them dried out afterward LoL.

Usually takes two. You have to hold the self-adjusting mechanism away from the knurled wheel. It's job is to turn it in the proper direction, and to stop it from turning in the direction that you now need to turn it. So push it away with one screw driver, and turn the wheel to bring the brake shoes closer together, and then hopefully pop the drum off.
Yeah, front drum brakes didn't dry out very quickly. And they were a bitch to get adjusted correctly so the car wouldn't pull when braking!
