my 03 does not have cruise control (power door locks or windows either)... is there a way i can add it to my ranger? a fellow ranger lover says i have to replace the column but there must be an easier way? i drive 3 hours one way for college and by the time i arrive my right foot is lame. any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

Replaced Headunit with an Alpine Stereo and Alpine 5X7's in front and 6X9's in back, 00' Explorer Leather Seats to Automatic. Black Headlight Covers, Black Headliner, Blk/Gry OHC, going energy efficient with LED's and HID's, got sound proofing foam @ a local manufacturer and insulated everything (no sound or road noise)

The first thing you want to check is that your truck has the speed control connector in the harness under the hood. It is a wide flat connector with 8~10 wires just behind the windshield washer reservoir and it may be covered by a plastic cap. If the connector is there, then your Ranger should be prewired for speed control.

The parts you need are:

• Speed control switch pods with wiring.
• Steering wheel trim that has cutouts for the pods.
• Speed control clockspring assembly (hidden under the column trim and wheel).
• Servo/module with mounting bracket and speed control cable (fits underhood where you should have found that flat connector).

IMPORTANT: To avoid the possibility of breaking a used clockspring, you will need to verify that it is properly "clocked" to center before installing it. The instructions may be printed on the C/S housing; if not, consult a shop manual. [A clockspring should never be sourced from a junkyard donor that has taken a hard hit to the front or one that has high miles. Unfortunately, a new clockspring is over $100.]

Another possible idea - Ford sold complete speed control kits for Rangers that were meant to be a dealer installed option. The original price was around $300+ but every once in a while a used one comes up on eBay for $100 or so. These are year and engine specific, so you need to know what you are buying.
