Screw it I'll be biased too and say 98-00! It really is my favorite tho! I think the front end has a smooth flow because the headlights are the same height as the grill. Although a nice 01-03 edge comes in a close second. Those painted bumpers look great.

I liked my 2001 XL and like my current XLT so I don't know.

Could someone explain the generation differences that many are referring to? Or is there a reference on here somewhere that I haven't found yet?

its a hard choice but my first choice would be the 1st gen body style, second choice is the 01-03 body style and 3rd would be the 93-97 body style.

1st gen: 83-88, 2nd gen: 89-92, 3rd gen: 93-97, 4th gen is kind of hard to say. TECHNICALLY, it's 98-10, you can break it down into 4 parts but I would say and I'm sure most would agree... 98-00, 01-03, 04-05, 06-10. But what makes it more confusing is that stuff overlapped generations, like 93 and 94's have the same interior as the 2nd gens and same goes for 95-03's.

I would say mine of course the 1987 it was the last to be built the way she is especialy with the old ford front end look,but there is the controversial 1982 single cab that most ppl say didn't exist that had the original v8 302,that had an original 1970's ford pickup slanted,and curved around the sides hood.hardly any of those exist due to age,wreckes,and fire,if they do their coveted away.It was still considered a 83" the debute of the ranger and the end of the crappy little ford courier or what ever it was.
