Put the same v8 and drivetrain from a fullsize into a small truck and the small truck rapes the fullsize as far as performance goes.

The frames are a bit different on the bigger trucks and suspension is too

Just for an example look at the f-150 vs say the f-350. They are give or take the same size with the same setup: IE regular cab to regular cab. What's the difference between the two...? Oh it must be that whole engineering thing. If you designed and built a truck say the Rangers size with the same power, same suspension, same transmission could it not in essence perform the same "work"
|
No it couldnt because the weight of the bigger trucks give them an advantage against the bigger weight they are hauling/towing.

True but that never stopped Ranger and S10 owners from dropping 5.0's and 350's into their trucks successfully

Don't forget about the ls1 and the 302"s, I would like to see a new ranger with an ecoboost v6 that would be a fast truck xD.

Thats sweet, I hope to do the same. I don't think the rear end from a 5.0 Explorer is that much different than a Ranger with an 8.8, is it?

I think they're the same. I haven't looked into it but I was hoping I could use the same rear end

Re: 2015 Ford F-100....?
Jesus Christ, I'm not saying this new lighter duty truck is / should replace the f-150+ all I'm trying to say is, the same work that was performed 30 to 40 years ago is still being performed today. Trucks of yester year were not as large as some of these new monsters.
The main thing that has changed over the coarse of that time period is the engineering. You can design a small truck to do anything a large truck can. Period end of discussion. Now is there any chance that a civil informative and interesting conversation can take place here. Or shall this pissing contest continue?

The Ecoboost would be sweet in a ranger but it sure wouldnt be a cheap setup, eck the company doing the mod for the Raptor I saw on Spike Tv said they were buying the F150 ecoboost then doing a frame swap with a Raptor as it was cheaper to do that way.... Might be cheaper but without the tool that seem way too labor intensive. Id like to see the Escape 4cyl boosted one tho in a Ranger, crank the boost and have a go.

Im sorry but you are wrong. You cant deny physics man, larger loads require a larger truck plain and simple. Full size trucks have bigger brakes, bigger axles, wheels, engines, drive-trains, frames ect ect because that is what is needed to control the loads they are capable of towing and carrying. There is no amount of engineering that can ignore the laws of physics.

Re: 2015 Ford F-100....?
They could theoretically produce a midsize with all the beefed up components and engine of a fullsize. Yeah it would be nearly the same price as a fullsize which many say is a total waste, but with the superior power to weight ratio and better gas mileage, it would be worth it for some people. There are alot of people out there who'd buy a truck like this if it existed.

100% true. Most people dont need that size of a truck. thats why a lot of dodge owners went with the dakota instead of the ram both had v8s

Re: 2015 Ford F-100....?
I guess what bigfisher and 01 ranger dont understand, and what JGiddy does understand... Is that you can engineer anything to accomplish anything. It's a matter of making the decision on what you'd like to accomplish given a certain set of guide lines. Just because a small truck that delivers everything a large truck does, has not been produced yet, does not mean its impossible to create. Use your Brain guys seriously. Large does not always mean strong. Heavy does not always mean better.
