Yes yes, it surely is, you can pretty much fix anything with duct tape.

You ever seen that mythbusters episode where they find out how many things they can do with duct tape? They built a boat (that floated with no leaks), and a hammock and it worked perfectly, and those were a few of the several, several things they were able to craft with only duct tape.

Hahaha yeah I remember that. I think duct tape was one of the greatest inventions! I did have a question though, did they use a frame or something and then go around it with tape to build the boat?

I can't remember, it has been awhile since I have seen it. But I dont think they did because their rules were to only use duct tape and nothing else. But they might have cheated on that one too.

I keep rescue type in my truck at all times and make sure it's there for road trips. I'm lucky I make movie sets and they sell it in all set stores

Your CEL probably has to do with the dpfs sensor (correct me if that's wrong) its part of the EGR system. I had a mechanic fix mine and when I saw how easy it would've been and how much I paid I was pissed. It was expensive but it was well worth it and my truck doesn't throw codes all the time like it used to!

CEL could also be caused by slow oxygen sensors. dont forget to take a quick look at your serpentine belt too!

I put currently 108,xxx miles on my Ranger since August of 2008. It has been in 24 states, and never once failed me.

Check:
Tires - cracking, leaks, unusual wear etc, tire pressure, set it to the optimum
Engine fluids - self explanatory.
Do all the necessary maintenance before hand
And keep extra water or coolant, oil, towels are hand, I like a pair of gloves, and any other safety gear you might need in case of breakdown. I was living in Montana, and used to carry extra food and that but you are in Cali, you'll see someone, I could go 6 hours of driving in Montana, and literally see no one. But it's a thought. Having a charger for the cell phone is still smart lol Oh and lots of tunes to jam too

Thanks Richard! That's exactly the info I was looking for! This would be my first time going on a long stretch like this, from Houston to San Diego lol. So I'm not real familiar with what to do or how to prepare for long trips like this, certainly want to take care of the ranger lol.

Lol I am called the road trippin king for a reason. It's all basic, first you need to be comfy, second, and probably more important, since it's a Ranger, so it's not that comfortable, you need to make sure the truck is in perfect shape to get you there. If you think it needs replacing, fixing, or attention, just do it. I would also check all of your lights, I know they can be an issue somedays, and I carry spare lights. replace them in pairs, because one goes, the other isn't always far behind. Houston to San Diego is no sweat, I have driven cross country twice in the Ranger, all by myself. The only issue I ever had was water in the fuel, so make sure you fill up at stops with lots of traffic. Follow the truck stops, and stick to name brand fuel. Arco bad, Chevron good, although in your neck of the woods I think it was Sinclair's, Flying J's, Love's and Pilot's. All good, just pick high traffic stations to stop. And since you are going long distance, if you are not sure when the next stop for fuel is, just stop, fill up at a quarter tank, period. That way if you can't fill it right then, or it is to far to the next stop you have some leeway to turn around and go back to the station you just passed. Or if you are stuck you can leave the air conditioning on. Also, I like to go as long as I can between stops, but I know my abilities, if you feel tired, you are, stop every 2-4 hours even if you don't need to, get out for at least 15 minutes, and walk around, just get the blood flowing, keeps you more awake. And don't be afraid to stop and sleep. Again pick a high traffic area with good parking, so you are less likely to get carjacked, and there is probably something to eat or whatever you need there.
