Low milage Rangers worth the extra $$$
I am in the hunt for a Ford Ranger 4x4. Trying to get some opinions. Would you get a 2011 Ranger XLT with 26,000 miles for $21,000 or 2006 Ranger XLT with 47,000 miles for $16,000?

Agreed. Also, easier to track maintenance/care on a newer truck.

If its feasible, then I'd go with the 2011. All the risk when buying a used vehicle lies in how well it has been maintained. With the 2011 there's been less time for someone to neglect it.

Depends, the 26,000 mile 2011 for $21,000 sounds good, but a 2006 with 47,000 for $16,000 might be easier on the wallet AND Insurance. check what your premiums would be with both rangers and whatever is the best price that you can afford, go with that decision.

Re: Low milage Rangers worth the extra $$$
Options have to be considered also, so if the 2011 were 2 door, but the 2006 were 4 door, I'd get the 2006. Also, it depends on how much a monthly payment I wanted and how much cash I had upfront. My current situation for instance, I'd get the 2006. Any used vehicle is a gamble, but 46,000 miles still is low, and the Ranger is a pretty solid vehicle. If oil changes are kept up, what really needs to have been performed with such low miles?

Hard to say for the 2011, but you can definitely find an '06 with those miles for less money. If you can swing the '11 you'll have the bonus of four wheel discs, traction control, some remaining warranty and the peace of mind that you'll always have the newest ranger on the road. Good luck!

I didn't originally notice the price on the 06', but market prices do vary. Your right that he should be able to find a lower priced Ranger with that mileage, but even here and performing a 100 mile search on www.cars.com gives a wide range in price for the same equipped vehicle. At least he has a starting point. Also, I bought my 08' in August 07', and the warranty was 5 year/60,000 miles.

Re: Low milage Rangers worth the extra $$$
Always request the carfax as well to see if their were any major accidents or if oil changes and regular maintenance has been kept up. I bought a 2010 ranger xl with standard cab 2wd for 11,000 it had 60,000 miles on it but it was very well maintained. If you don't need 4wd don't get it they cost more and are more expensive to maintain, but if you need it don't skip out on it because you will be glad that you have it.

Re: Low milage Rangers worth the extra $$$
Another thing to consider is the 2011 will have the electronic nannies like RSC, traction control ect while the 2006 wont. I personally hate traction control but some love it. The 2011 will also have rear disc brakes, the 2006 wont. The difference in mileage is actually pretty small, thats about a year and a half of miles for the average owner. If it were me buying and all options being equal I would go for the 06 probably.

I have the 2011 and I love it. The traction control is really sweet sometimes, but you can't full disable it
