The humming could be your pump. Did u check the fluid?

Your steering wheel wouldn't shake cause of the pump though

Check your alignment. That gets my wheel shaking at highway speeds.

It does sound like your power steering pump maybe going. But Fords in the late 70's early 90's has a power steering pump squeal to them. There is a bearing in the steering coloum that might also be the problem to I would take it to a mechanic see what he has to say about it.

You can do that yourself if you know how to check the u joints for a wobble. Just grab it and shake. I don't know if they are grease filled on these either, but I know in my old Chev that all you had to do was fill that up with grease and it helped stop the shaking.

The other thing is if your truck is really muddy or snow covered. I've had mud and ice that melted and stuck to my wheels make the shaking happen.

Another thought if it doesn't stop is that you might have a tire that is out of round. Had a tire go bad on a buddies trailer I was towing and it felt like it was going to come off the hitch.
