I know this is an old thread, but I fucking hate theifs. You bust your ass and work for the things you got just for someone to come and take it all away. I had my truck broke into, stole my subs, amp, the enitire bezel right out of the dash. I went out to leave for work and noticed the door was opened. Of course I called the police. So I am looking around and I notice a book of matches on the floor, I don't smoke and I don't have matches. I asked the cops if they could dust the match book for finger prints, the lady told me its not worth the time and they most likely will not find who done it. I was so pissed. My things were not worth alot, maybe $800 or so. Its just the principle of finding this guy and make a damn example out of him. Especially if there is a chance of getting a finger print!

That's the way it is in my area too. Somebody broke into my neighbor's house a few years ago. They knew exactly where the lady entered the house since she left the chair by the window. Another neighbor even saw the lady walking out with stuff in her hand. But when the cops arrived, and we told them they should dust for fingerprints, they simply said "We aren't CSI Las Vegas". Neighbor lost quite a bit of football merchandise. I would have been mega pissed.

regular uniformed cops are not criminal investigators. that is a different division. they only dust for fingerprints now, if a "crime against a human" has occurred, like a rape, murder, some violence against a person. some burglar entering a home and stealing some items is not enough to "dust" for fingerprints.

It wasn't the regular cops, it was some burglary task force. Either way, it's a wonder there's so many burglaries.

You know what's funny though, if someone broke into Publix or into the Sheriff's car, you better believe that dusting kit is gonna come out.

I had a pressure washer and some other tools stolen out of a truck in my driveway, and the police wouldn't even send someone out to check the crime scene unless "the column had been tampered with". Unless they had tried to steal the car, all I could do was file a report online, and of course that wouldn't amount to anything. This is how it's handled so many times, even if there are clear prints on the chrome door handles, they just don't care.

If that happened to me I would be raising hell with supervisors at the police station until I got to somebody who would do their job and try to catch criminals instead of sitting on their ass and eating donuts...

Another thing you could consider is a theft alarm. Some don't cost too much when they just make lots of noise when movement is sensed. You might even get a little knocked off your insurance if you get one. Sorry that stills sucks. Is possible the slime-ball that stole your tools may deal them off quick to a local pawn shop or whatever there is to post things for sale for free. Scatch the last sentence...just saw this happened 10 months ago.

Here is what you don't understand. They are employed by the government. They get paid the same if they are super cop or super lazy. My step uncle is a sheriffs deputy and a hell of a hard worker and nice guy. I respect the hell out of him, but there are not a lot of cops like him. He is fair. He does his job the way IT SHOULD be done. He is just a GOOD police officer. Some just don't give two shits. It is just sad.

Also you should legally have the right to beat the shit out of theifs yourself! I went to a party for a friends birthday a few weeks ago and while I was there my ipod was stolen. I had a few beers (responsibly of course) and someone took it without me noticing. I was so mad. I have not hung out with any of those people since. There was about 30 people there and no one will tell me where it is. But what comes around goes around. They will get theirs. I just wish I could have my ipod back!

Not sure if this has been mentioned but check CL for your tools. If you find them, arrange a buy, and show up with a bunch of big friends and take your shit back.
