Default For those like me, who have driven rangers for a few decades....

I got my first ranger of my OWN in 1993 (an 86 model), my family had them all the way back to the full size ranger days so I've been around them all my life. I bought my first brand new ranger in 1997.

When I bought my red '97 I got a red XLT with carpet, bench with console, sliding glass, alloy's, chrome package, and upgraded door panels with pockets. (v/s the xl solid flat ones)

......all to the tune of $9,995 +TTL.

That price tag isn't really even a base model these days. You can have all the chrome and XLT goodies, but it'll cost you at least $14,999. For ten G's you get a skeleton.

I'm disappointed that real bumpers were replaced with plastic and a crash bar also. The base ranger is really sad for a TRUCK to be all plastic bumpers. It's a TRUCK and the base model is the one that is gonna work the hardest in most cases.

So why should I pay $5,000 more or settle for for a less equipped truck FORD has shaved most of the heavy metal off of and replaced with plastic? I say that they have taken too much off, and added too much expense. it takes too much investment to get into a small lightweight truck like the ranger compared to say a 1997 ranger when it was new and more of a truck IMO. These little boogers are expensive now!

Do I still love them? Of course I do However anyone who has bought a few over time is going to notice a lot more plastic and a lot more cost V/S the truck we got in the 90's.

JMO........

You got a better deal than I got I baught mine last year off the sales lot 27,000 for it and mine is a sport package. With A/C, Sirius, and not power mirrors or locks. But the truck does hold sentimental value as it is the first pick up I have baughten off a sales lot so I plan on keeping it for a while. The only down fall I have for the Ranger is I did my homeworks on the sub compacts. And The Dakota, Canyon, and even the Tacoma are all wired for trailer brakes and a 7 pin connector. But the Ranger looked the best out of them all and the Ranger looks like a sexy truck covered in mud for some reason lol.

Wow. $10,000 for a brand new one back then? That's a good deal! I bought mine used for $17,000 taxes included. It's the sport package with power everything, supercab and all other goodies the sport version comes with.

I am on my 3rd ranger now. Both of them prior to my current 2001 had well over 250,000 miles on them with only minor repairs. My current 2001 Edge is now at 152000 and I have had zero problems with it. Just starting to replace some of the typical wear items at this milage. They are really great trucks and get decent milage. My 3.0 / standard versions were obviously better on milage than the 4.0 / automatic but still great trucks.

Since we are talking about brand new dealer sales, you must have a nice dealer. He need a new friend?

Bought my first one in '85. It was an '86 XLT supercab with dual tanks, 4x, cruise and some new fangled "see-dee" stereo. I think it was 19,000. My ex traded it for a 'yota.

Can you imagine when the plastic dries out in 6 or 8 years and starts cracking and falling apart like the Cadillac's bumper inserts do. There won't be a bumper on the truck at all!
