Default Buying question

I am considering buying a used 2005 Ranger. I have it narrowed down to an FX4 or an Edge package. Any comments, likes/dislikes about each?

For a summary of differences, look in the first post in this thread: http://www.fordrangerforum.com/gener...reak-down.html

I think the FX4 is often regarded as the preferred choice if you can afford it, though it may depend on what you plan to do with it.

I would go with edge unless the FX4 was a level II

I bought a 2005 Ford Ranger Edge to tow behind my Motorhome. It is a Dark Shadow Gray with tinted glass, Snugtop hard Tonneu cover, V6, 5spd, 2wd, It had 20,000 when I bought it 2 years ago. I love it. 26 mpg and it sits up high like a 4wd. Easy to maintain. If you don't need a off road veh I would recommend the edge. Nice trim package. The only thing that is not stock is the tow bar brackets that I built and installed myself. I also installed a am/fm sterio CD player with USB, and memory card ports to play MP3

Agreed.

The only difference in an 4wd Edge and FX4 is the Edge doesn't have any chrome on it; all the bumpers are painted to match the truck. Other than that they are the EXACT same truck.

Now, if you are looking at an FX4 Level II, then definitely get that over the Edge.

Just make sure you get the 4.0 engine.

The Edge if I am not mistaken is the new sport model thats out at dealerships. The FX4 is a step up from that with power and leather and a console. I think 2010 is the last year Ford announced to cease production on the FX4. Honest opion buy the truck you have the most fun with wether Edge or FX4

You can get bucket seats in an Edge or XLT as well. The leather seats were only offered in the FX4 Level II's.

Default Thanks!

Thanks for the feedback/suggestions guys! Very helpful. I'm definitely going for the V6 4.0 4X4. Great pics of some nice looking Rangers by the way! My plan of attack it to drive each one and see which one feels better and is in better shape; looks and mechanical wise.

Whichever you get, you will not be dissappointed! I would go for an FX4 Level 2! Post some pics when you get it!
