My Ranger was just broken into about 2 weeks ago nothing to steal but the rear door window was shattered and the front door has larger scratches where a rock was hit against it also 2 tires were slashed. My Mustang had an attempted break in once came out of work to find 4 keys laying on the ground next to the driver side door.

I locked my car. As I walked away I heard my car door unlock. I went back and locked my car again, three times. Each time, as soon as I started to walk away, I would hear it unlock again!! Naturally alarmed, I looked around and there were two guys sitting in a car in the fire lane next to the store. They were obviously watching me intently, and there was no doubt they were somehow involved in this very weird situation. I quickly chucked the errand I was on, jumped in my car and sped away. I went straight to the police station, told them what had happened, and found out I was part of a new, and very successful, scheme being used to gain entry into cars.

Two weeks later, my friend's son had a similar happening. While traveling, my friend's son stopped at a roadside rest to use the bathroom. When he came out to his car less than 4-5 minutes later, someone had gotten into his car and stolen his cell phone, laptop computer, GPS navigator, briefcase......you name it. He called the police and since there were no signs of his car being broken into, the police told him he had been a victim of the latest robbery tactic -- there is a device that robbers are using now to clone your security code when you lock your doors by your car using your key-chain locking device..remotely. They sit a distance away and watch for their next victim. They know you are going inside the store, restaurant, or bathroom and they now have a few minutes to steal and run. The police officer said to manually lock your car door-by hitting the lock button inside the car -- that way if there is someone sitting in a parking lot watching for their next victim, it will not be you.

When you hit the lock button on your car upon exiting, it does not send the security code, but if you walk away and use the door lock on your key chain, it sends the code through the airwaves where it can be instantly stolen.

This is very real.

Be wisely aware of what you just read and please pass this note on. Look how many times we all lock our doors with our remote just to be sure we remembered to lock them -- and bingo, someone has our code...and whatever was in our car.

Wouldn't say that's why I don't have power doors, but this kind of makes me appreciate the little annoyance telling people to lock their door.

There have been two attempts at breaking into my truck, one before I got the truck, and the second I caught em in the act. The first left a big dent in my truck (I know what it was from but as mentioned before in this thread, I don't wanna give away too much info). The second, it was actually 2 people about 30 years old i'd say and they were huddled around my passenger door, at first I thought it was a couple of my friends doing something "funny", but after yelling "hey what are you doing?" they ran, I saw there was some scratches and I opened up my truck, grabbed my bat and followed em for a little bit. I literally scared the shit out of them because as I was getting a bit closer (I wasnt really going to use my bat, unless further provoked) they tried to hide in trees and jump fences, but I saw every where they went and crept up on them and could hear them talking.. it was fun. I didn't bother calling the police, because in the past they havent really had a good track record with me/people I know (as in nothing ever done about it). Enough of me and my adventures though.. time to continue browsing the forum.

I haven't had any real attempts at my truck that I know of. My roommate tried taking it one day and hiding it behind our apartment in our carport. I came running out in my boxers with my rifle because I heard the alarm going off. He laughed, I didn't lol. I've got the factory alarm and it seems to work great for me. My theft light also flashes when it's locked. The alarm woke me out of a dead sleep too.

Nope. Never had anyone try to break in. Now that I've said that, I'll probably walk out side to get in it, and it'll be gone. Thanks.

I just bought a 92 ranger and no one has tried anything yet. I found that method mentioned to unlock them but i only saw it being done on rangers after the redesign. Is my truck not affected by this security issue? I sure hope its not, cars get broken into alot where I live. When I had a contour i left it unlocked one night and someone got into it and ripped apart my whole dash stealing my stereo...
