I was in HS, had swim practice at a different location than usual. The freshman football team came in went through our stuff, took wallets and such. I had my door key to my car in my wallet, had a GMC, different door and ignition key. They took some stuff out of my car, my buddy's car (it was stick so I am guessing that is why they didn't take it, Mustang GT), took my buddy's inifiniti. Cops came, the car had lo-jack on it, located the car. Found the kids that did it, they were interviewed and admitted to trying to steal my car first but the key did not work.

not to get into trouble but does it have to do with an antenna, or a rod?
if im not mistaken it was on the news about how people break into rangers using only an antenna.

With all the "How To's" on the internet about access and access control for your rigs, you have to be kidding me if you think people who want to know, do not know how to open anything. You can get step by step instructions for free for almost anything on line at any time.

BTW no matter what type of lock you have, Car, truck, motorcycle, home, office, etc. The companies only make "X" about of lock cylinders and "X" amount of key types that fit them. UNLESS you have a patend type lock, Sooner or later one specific key will work in another lock made by the same mfg. The only question is, how many "X's" the company made with each lock type release.

You would be very surprised if you knew how small the "X" numbers where in some cases.

I have determined that most mechanical / electrical challanges are directly connected to the nut that connects the steering wheel to the drivers seat.

I can go elsewhere and hang out on line i was just stating if someone Google searches this thread will pop up and then presto. oh by the way. since whitelightening sent me a link to the you tube video of the brake in I'd imagine it's easy to know it by now.

My Dad had a late 70s van. He was at a grocery store walked out unlocked his van got in then looked around inside and realized it wasn't his. Same color and everything.

Good point, I was kinda joshing though. I know that the glove box isn't a good place for a gun, and for just the reason you said.

I was pretty shocked at first when I pieced it together. I work in a very decent, very quiet area of my town, but it IS pretty close to a major highway though...

I may look up that ranger break in secret... just so I can figure out a counter or something! lol

got this from my mom dont know how much truth to it but...How to Lock Your Car and Why

I locked my car. As I walked away I heard my car door unlock. I went back and locked my car again, three times. Each time, as soon as I started to walk away, I would hear it unlock again!! Naturally alarmed, I looked around and there were two guys sitting in a car in the fire lane next to the store. They were obviously watching me intently, and there was no doubt they were somehow involved in this very weird situation. I quickly chucked the errand I was on, jumped in my car and sped away. I went straight to the police station, told them what had happened, and found out I was part of a new, and very successful, scheme being used to gain entry into cars.

Two weeks later, my friend's son had a similar happening. While traveling, my friend's son stopped at a roadside rest to use the bathroom. When he came out to his car less than 4-5 minutes later, someone had gotten into his car and stolen his cell phone, laptop computer, GPS navigator, briefcase......you name it. He called the police and since there were no signs of his car being broken into, the police told him he had been a victim of the latest robbery tactic -- there is a device that robbers are using now to clone your security code when you lock your doors by your car using your key-chain locking device..remotely. They sit a distance away and watch for their next victim. They know you are going inside the store, restaurant, or bathroom and they now have a few minutes to steal and run. The police officer said to manually lock your car door-by hitting the lock button inside the car -- that way if there is someone sitting in a parking lot watching for their next victim, it will not be you.

When you hit the lock button on your car upon exiting, it does not send the security code, but if you walk away and use the door lock on your key chain, it sends the code through the airwaves where it can be instantly stolen.

This is very real.

Be wisely aware of what you just read and please pass this note on. Look how many times we all lock our doors with our remote just to be sure we remembered to lock them -- and bingo, someone has our code...and whatever was in our car.
