Plus in a more serious wreck, I wouldn't want those blocks hittin me in the back of the head.

Sand bags or loose sand would be my choice, but I never use anything in my truck for weight.

Good point about safety. I'd said I don't put anything for weight in the box, but depending on the winter there could be a lot of snow in it of unknown weight. And seldom no snow at all in it.

I understand for older trucks, but with all the electronics of later gens, do we still need to put on weight in the back?

I plan to bring out my cable this winter, to earn some $$ (like pulling 4x4s back on the highway during storms lol).

i'm going to stick with my answer from last year... "i've got a front differential, so i dont need weight"

if i need any added hoss in the ass end, i'll load up my 55 gallon beer cooler with choice adult botttles 'n cans then head out into the snow with my chains and straps to start making money.

Finally..for this year..I've driven mine a few times in icy conditions with a bit of snow. The Traction-Lok (limited-slip) diff. makes a huge difference over not having it. My previous 1987 Ranger didn't. So I would think for those that don't have it..putting extra weight in the box for winter probably is a good idea. And if you have Traction-Lok no where near as much...don't forget about the potential dangers of 50-100lb things in the box..often not properly tied down..if they became projectiles in an accident!

4x4 for the win.

I do have some bagged landscape rock in the back, that was just cause of all the ice we had, and I like to leave it in 2wd except when I REALLY need 4x4.
