Default Starter or not ????

Drove my truck today and it started and ran fine. Stopped by the house to drop off a few tings to the wife, hopped back in and the truck would not start. Tried jump starting and still nothing, Just get a click when turning the key. Also tried banging on starter and still nothing. Is it a bad starter or shold I look elsewhere first. Any input greatly appreciated. Truck is a 2000 Ranger 4X4 XLT 3.0L

sounds like what a starter would do

I would take it off and put battery cables on ur battery and hook the other end to the starter on the right post. if the gear moves it's good if not then it's bad

I would clean terminals just to be sure. auto? standard? could be starter/solenoid, could be "starter control circuit"

check your fuses, but I thought the clicking WAS the actual starter....Its gotta a dead battery if I'm right. you let it sit a minute to charge off the jump right>?

I give other pplz jumps, and they do stupid things, like start it before i get hooked on, or tell me to rev engine to charge faster.... ugg, just let it sit and idle like 2 solid minutes!

Thanks for all the input. It was a bad starter. New one installed yesterday and back on the road.
